MAPP Messages and Good Fun!

 In Press Releases

Justin Remer and other Isle youth group members helped hand out t-shirts, cinch sacks, water bottles and ear buds to the student body. Each item had a campaign message specific to the data from their school surveys.

The MAPP Coalition (Mille Lacs Area Partners in Prevention) spread their message far and wide on Wed., January 21, 2015. They invited Foley native Rick Rassier, a well-known motivational speaker, to talk to all three area schools about the importance of healthy life choices, specifically in regards to alcohol and drug use. Rassier is a life-long drug-free advocate and likes to bring his messages home by creating some fun physical activity to keep the kids engaged.
His messages were clear, life is all about choices and choices turn into habits and habits into lifestyles. Rassier’s topics for the talk were goal setting and determination to achieve them, celebrating progress and dealing with frustration, and the power of positive self-talk and encouragment.
Alcohol Dependancy Counselor, Shaylor Alley was able to join the program in Onamia and he shared his story of having it all, then slipping into a destructive lifestyle by the choices he was making. He was there to let the students know he is available to talk about any of the issues they may be facing. Both adults and adolescents are encouraged to call on him at 320-532-3080.
The day also included handing out promotional goods to the kids. The items help promote the campaign using positive messaging that is derived from the student surveys. “It’s important that we celebrate that most students ARE making good choices and remind them to keep up the good work in supporting each other” said Amber Kent, coordinator of the grant.
